In 1 Timothy 4:12 Paul advises Timothy to not allow anyone to look down on him because of his age and to be an example to believers in his life. That has been my challenge to the players. In a culture that wants to turn from God and pursue worldly things, be different, be a leader for the LORD, setting an example in speech and love.
One of the players who has accepted the challenge and is becoming a spiritual leader is Chaney Johnson. He decided to pray center court with his teammates before every practice. You may have seen him wearing his Faith Is Key- In Every Game shirt during warm-ups.
You may have also heard Johni Broome, Dylan, Chaney and several others speak the name of Jesus during press conferences. This is another area where I have tried to challenge our players. Often you hear athletes thanking God for their accomplishments but the word "god" can be ambiguous. Who are you talking about? To speak the name of Jesus Christ is a clear message about who you serve and to speak His name on their platform could be life-changing for many. Matthew 10:33 says, “But everyone who denies me here on earth, I will also deny before my Father in heaven.” Of course, our guys are not perfect, but I am proud they have taken a stand for their faith.
Please continue praying for endurance, perseverance, and boldness as these young men grow in their faith.
